Okay, friends - gather ‘round, because I have a deliciously spooky secret to share. I was born for Halloween! Literally. My birthday is October 29th, so spooky season is MY season, and you know I celebrate it right - with costumes, cobwebs, candy, and yes... creepy treats that make you giggle and squirm. Enter: these Creepy Halloween Rice Krispies Brains!

They’re ooey, gooey, marshmallowy perfection (because hello, rice krispie treats are one of my forever faves), but shaped like BRAINS for that extra Halloween party wow-factor. I mean, they’re cute in the creepiest way - and ridiculously easy to make. You don’t need fancy tools or a baking degree. Just a big pot, a little food coloring, and the courage to mold your snacks into body parts.
I whip these up every year for our spooky birthday bash, and let me tell you, they’re always the first thing to disappear. The kids love 'em, the grownups get a kick out of them, and they’re just the right amount of gross to earn a double take.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 3 tablespoon butter
- One 10 oz bag miniature marshmallows
- Red food coloring (the creepier the better!)

Tools of the (Mad Scientist’s) Trade:
- Measuring cup
- Large pot
- Silicone spatula
- Baking sheet or tray
- Parchment paper
- Ice cream scoop with trigger (or your trusty hands)
- Butter knife
- Small bowl
- Thin paintbrush
Let’s Make Brains!
First things first - line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Things are about to get sticky.
In your big ol' pot, melt the butter over low heat, then toss in your marshmallows. Stir constantly until everything is melted and smooth like a mad genius’s plan.

Drop in a few dabs of red food coloring - we used about 5 drops to get that pinky-fleshy brain hue, but go lighter or darker depending on your level of gore.

Stir in the Rice Krispies cereal until it’s all beautifully combined in marshmallow gooeyness.

Scoop out the mixture using your ice cream scoop and plop it onto your tray. Shape it into an oval (this is where the brainy magic begins), then gently press the back of a butter knife down the middle to create that iconic brain wrinkle.

Now for the artsy fartsy part - add a little food coloring to a small bowl, and use a thin paintbrush to paint some red “veins” across your brains. Creepy, realistic, and oh-so-extra.

Boom. You’ve just made edible brains and probably earned your place as the reigning Halloween queen!

Tips + Twists:
- Want to make them even gorier? Drizzle with red gel icing or raspberry syrup for that “just harvested” vibe.
- Add a drop of vanilla or almond extract to the marshmallow mix for a spooky surprise flavor.
- Store in an airtight container and they’ll last a few days - if your goblins don’t eat them all first.
