If Caesar salad had a more filling, party-ready cousin - this is her!
My family is Caesar salad obsessed. The tang, the crunch, those croutons - it's basically a non-negotiable in our house. So when I started experimenting with turning it into a pasta salad, I'll be honest... I wasn't sure Johnny would go for it. He's pretty loyal to the original.

Well. He grabbed seconds before I even sat down!
That's our family's unofficial recipe approval system. Nobody announces it, nobody votes - you just watch who goes back for more. And this Caesar pasta salad passed on the very first try.
It's got everything you love about a classic Caesar - that creamy, tangy dressing, the salty parmesan, the satisfying crunch of croutons - but now it's hearty enough to be a real side dish. Perfect for cookouts, potlucks, or just a weeknight when you want something that feels a little special without a lot of effort.
We're not reinventing the wheel here. We're just making it better!
WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS RECIPE
- Ready in about 20 minutes from start to finish
- Five simple ingredients you probably already have
- All the bold Caesar flavor you love in a heartier, crowd-friendly form
- Perfect make-ahead side dish for cookouts and potlucks
- Easily doubles for a crowd
INGREDIENTS
- 8 oz penne pasta
- ½ cup Caesar salad dressing
- 1½ cups chopped romaine lettuce
- ½ cup shredded parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup croutons, roughly crushed
TOOLS YOU'LL NEED
- Large pot
- Colander
- Large mixing bowl
- Cutting board and knife
- Measuring cups
- Large spoon

DIRECTIONS
Cook the pasta. Boil your penne according to package directions. Drain and rinse well under cold water for a couple of minutes - you want it fully cooled before you dress it.

Dress the pasta. Add the cooled pasta to a large bowl. Stir in the Caesar dressing until every piece is coated.

Add the good stuff. Toss in the chopped romaine and most of the parmesan cheese. Give it a good stir to combine.

Top and serve. Sprinkle the remaining parmesan and the crushed croutons over the top right before serving.

Make it ahead. If you're not serving immediately, cover and refrigerate. When you're ready to serve, stir in a little extra dressing to freshen it up, then top with the reserved parmesan and croutons.
TARA'S TIPS
- Rinse that pasta thoroughly. Cold, well-rinsed pasta holds the dressing better and keeps the salad from getting gummy. Don't skip this step!
- Save your croutons for last. If you toss them in too early they'll get soggy. Add them right before serving for maximum crunch.
- Make it ahead friendly. This salad is actually better after a short chill in the fridge - the pasta soaks up all that Caesar flavor. Just hold the croutons until serving.
- Scale it up easily. Doubles beautifully for a crowd - just keep the dressing ratio similar and taste as you go.
- A good vegetable chopper makes quick work of the romaine - I use mine constantly for salads and pasta salads alike.
SERVING IDEAS
- Serve alongside grilled chicken or burgers for a complete cookout spread
- Pairs beautifully with Greek Pasta Salad for a potluck pasta station
- Add it next to Avocado Pasta Salad when you need variety on the table
- Serve as a side with Bruschetta Pasta Salad for a fun Italian-inspired spread
STORAGE NOTES
Store leftover Caesar pasta salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The croutons will soften over time, so if you're planning ahead, store them separately and add fresh when serving. Give the salad a stir and a splash of extra dressing before serving leftovers - it freshens everything right up.
