My mom was a unicorn in our little corner of Northwestern Pennsylvania. While she and my dad were stationed in France, she picked up a palate that had absolutely nothing in common with the solid German fare everyone else's mom was serving. And I mean everyone. Our town had a pizza palace, two BBQ joints, and exactly zero Chinese restaurants. Zero.

But my mom? My mom cooked like she'd been everywhere, because she had. So when her bridge club came over, she wasn't setting out a cheese ball and calling it a night. She was serving something with actual flavor - something her friends had never tasted anywhere else in town, let alone made at home.
This Crab Rangoon Dip is my grown-up tribute to that "effortlessly fancy" hostess energy. It's got all that classic takeout flavor - cream cheese, garlic, a little soy sauce and Worcestershire for depth - baked into one creamy, bubbly dish that looks like you fussed over it for hours. You didn't. That's the whole trick.
We're not apologizing for using imitation crab (with a K) here, either. This is bougie on a budget, bridge-party style, and it disappears just as fast now as it would have off my mom's coffee table in 1975.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Tastes like takeout, costs like pantry food - all that crab rangoon flavor without the delivery fee
- Dump-and-bake simple - one bowl, one dish, no fuss
- Crowd-pleaser guaranteed - this is the dip that empties first at every party
- Make-ahead friendly - mix it up early, bake it when guests arrive
- Effortlessly fancy - looks like a lot more work than it actually is
What You'll Need
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Large bowl
- Silicone spoon
- Medium 8x8 or similar size baking dish
Ingredients
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3 green onions, finely diced, plus a few diced for topping
- 4 oz Monterey jack cheese
- 8 oz imitation crab meat, chopped
- 1–2 tablespoon sweet chili sauce
- Wonton wraps (optional)

Directions
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Dice the green onions - finely dice some for the mixture, and dice a few extra for topping later.
Mix together the cream cheese, sour cream, minced garlic, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, green onions, cheese, and crab meat in a large bowl until well combined.

Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake for 20 minutes. Then switch the oven to broil and broil for 1–3 minutes, until golden and bubbly on top.

While the dip bakes, cut the wonton wraps in half diagonally and arrange them on a baking sheet. Spray each side lightly with cooking spray, then air fry at 400°F for 3–5 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.

Once the dip comes out of the oven, drizzle with sweet chili sauce and top with the remaining diced green onions.

Serve with chips, crackers, or your homemade wonton chips.
Tara's Tips
- If you want that shatter-crisp wonton chip without the air fryer, you can bake them at 400°F for about 6-8 minutes instead - just watch them closely so they don't burn.
- A silicone spoon makes scraping every bit of cream cheese out of the bowl so much easier - no waste!
- Running low on time? A mini chopper makes quick work of dicing the green onions.
- A 8x8 baking dish is my go-to for dips this size - the perfect ratio of surface area to bubbly, golden top.
Serving Suggestions
This dip is a natural fit anywhere you'd serve Bacon Wrapped Crackers or Tortellini Bites - think game day spreads, holiday appetizer tables, or (of course) your own bridge party! Pair it with Cucumber Sandwiches for a spread that covers every craving, from crunchy to creamy.
