Why Did I Make These?
Okay, storytime - and this one is personal!
I have been a true crime girlie for as long as I can remember. I'm talking a full-on, card-carrying, podcast-obsessed, My Favorite Murder fan from way back. And yes, I absolutely saw Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark LIVE in Tampa almost ten years ago, and it remains one of the greatest nights of my life. If you know, you know.
So when I released my true crime junk journal pages, I honestly wasn't sure I was going to make a matching ephemera set to go with them. I had my journal pages, I was happy, I thought maybe that was enough. And then my email besties spoke up.
You all asked for the ephemera sheets, loudly and repeatedly, and honestly - how could I say no? The people demanded the evidence, and I delivered. That's just good detective work!
These sheets were so much fun to put together, and they turned out even more dramatic and gorgeous than I imagined. I hope they bring some delicious dark energy to your next project!
Why Are They Free?
Because good things should be shared, and also because I genuinely love building a community of creative weirdos who appreciate a good poison bottle illustration as much as I do!
My whole philosophy with Artsy Fartsy Life is that creativity shouldn't have a paywall. The free printable library exists because I want you to have beautiful things to make beautiful things with. When you use these sheets, share your projects, pin this post, tell a crafty friend - that's how this little community keeps growing, and it means the world to me.
So go forth. Create chaos. Make something gorgeous and slightly sinister.
For this set I used my creativity, images from Creative Fabrica and The Graphics Fairy!
How to Print Them Out
For the best results with these dark, moody sheets, here are my top printing tips:
- Cardstock is your best friend - 65 lb or 80 lb cardstock gives you that sturdy, substantial feel that works beautifully for tags and ephemera pieces
- Matte photo paper is a gorgeous option if you want rich, deep color on the darker sheets
- Print at full size - these are designed for standard 8.5 x 11 paper, so don't scale them down unless you're going for a specific look
- Ink the edges - a little black or brown ink around the edges of your cut pieces takes the vintage vibe to a whole other level
- Distress to your heart's content - tear edges, crumple slightly, sand the surface - these designs were made to look a little rough around the edges, just like the best true crime stories
- Darker sheets may use more ink - if you're printing multiples, consider using draft mode for practice prints first
