How To Use Another Person's Art As Inspiration

Using someone's art as inspiration is GREAT! You might admire their style, color choices or design layout.

If we are honest, all artists start out by copying other people's work until they develop a style of their own so this a great way to grow as an artist!

That said, make sure you are not copying them. Don't do EXACTLY the same design and then say that it is your own.

Make sure you are crediting the original artist and calling out their work!

In the video I go through the elements of the art piece and talk about some things that we were going to look for while harvesting magazine images to recreate this piece:

  • Two similar heads
  • 8 eyes
  • Flowers
  • Body
  • Skirt
  • Shoes
  • Extras (vines in the background)

Going through the magazines I found some amazing substitutions that we could use... herbs for the leaves, cocktail glasses for the skirt and sandals for the shoes!
