Let me tell you something about game day at our house. It's not really about the game (sorry, sportsball.) It's about THE SPREAD!

Johnny makes the most fabulous spreads for game days and big family gatherings. When the dips come out, everybody gathers around like it's Black Friday at a doorbuster sale. And this lasagna dip? It's the one we ALL fight over first.
Not gonna lie, I have hip checked my big girls out of the way more than once to get to it. Do I feel bad about that? A little. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY. A mother's love has limits, and those limits are bubbly mozzarella.
This warm, cheesy dip has all the classic flavors of lasagna in a scoopable, party-friendly form. You get seasoned Italian sausage, rich marinara, creamy ricotta, parmesan, and a golden blanket of melted mozzarella. You don't boil noodles, you don't fuss with layers, and you won't find a lick of leftovers in the dish.
It's comfort food that shows up to the party ready to mingle. And it's a little bougie on a budget, with seven everyday grocery store ingredients and big Sparkle Without the Splurge energy.
Why You'll Love This Lasagna Dip
- It tastes just like lasagna without all the layering, noodle boiling, and hour of baking. All the flavor, a fraction of the work.
- It only takes 10 minutes of prep. Brown, simmer, dollop, top, bake. That's it.
- It feeds a crowd, serving 6 to 8 as an appetizer (or fewer if my family is involved)
- It uses budget-friendly staples: Italian sausage, a jar of marinara, and three cheeses. No fancy ingredients required.
- It works for everything, from game day and potlucks to holiday parties, family movie nights, or a fun "appetizers for dinner" night.
Lasagna Dip Recipe Details
Servings: 6–8
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground Italian sausage
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (plus extra for garnish, if desired)
- ⅔ cup ricotta cheese
- 3 tablespoon parmesan cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Tools You'll Need
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Large skillet
- Spatula
- Large spoon
- Small mixing bowl
- 2-quart baking dish. Ours was oval, but an 8x8 or similar size works great.
How to Make Lasagna Dip
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks, until no longer pink. Drain the grease.

Add the marinara sauce, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes over low heat.

Pour the meaty sauce into a greased 2-quart baking dish.

Stir the ricotta and parmesan together in a small bowl. Drop the mixture by very small spoonfuls over the top of the sauce.

Top with the shredded mozzarella and bake for 15 minutes. Then broil for 1–2 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Sprinkle with a little more Italian seasoning for garnish, if desired.

Serve warm. We love to serve this with breadsticks or garlic bread!
Tara's Tips
- Break that sausage up small. Smaller crumbles make the dip easier to scoop, so your breadstick doesn't snap in half mid-dunk. (Ask me how I know.) A meat chopper tool makes this SO easy!
- Keep the ricotta dollops tiny. Small spoonfuls spread the creamy cheese through every scoop instead of leaving big ricotta islands.
- Babysit the broiler. The cheese goes from "gorgeous and golden" to "well, that's toast" in about 30 seconds. Don't walk away!
- Pick your heat level. Mild Italian sausage keeps it family-friendly. Hot Italian sausage adds a nice kick for the grown-ups.
- Choose a jarred marinara you already love. No need to make your own sauce. Your favorite jar is the easy, budget-friendly win here.
- Make it ahead. Assemble the dip, cover, and refrigerate. When it's party time, bake until heated through and bubbly, adding a few extra minutes since it's starting cold.
What to Serve with Lasagna Dip
- Garlic bread or breadsticks are the classic dippers, and my personal favorites.
- Toasted baguette slices or crostini make it feel a little fancy.
- Pita chips or sturdy crackers work great for game day grazing.
- Veggie dippers like bell pepper strips, zucchini rounds, or celery sticks balance out the cheese (a little).
- Round out the spread with more of our favorite party food Pigs in a Blanket, or keep the Italian theme going with our Italian Sausage Lasagne Soup.
- Build an appetizers-for-dinner night with a big salad on the side.
How to Store Leftovers
If you somehow have leftovers (lucky you), let the dip cool, then cover it or move it to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3–4 days.
To reheat, warm it in a 350°F oven until hot and bubbly, or microwave individual portions in short bursts, stirring in between.
Freezing: This dip is best enjoyed fresh. Ricotta can get a little grainy after freezing, so I don't recommend it.

One Last Scoop
Some recipes are just food. And some recipes are the reason your family crowds around the kitchen island, elbows out, laughing and trash-talking over the last scoop.
This lasagna dip is the second kind. It's warm, cheesy, easy, and budget-friendly, and it's absolutely worth a friendly hip check or two. Make it for your next game day or family gathering, and don't say I didn't warn you when it disappears.
Happy scooping, friends!
