We have been battling indoor peeing for a while now from our two old dear male dogs. How does this happen you may ask, well here is the story...
My mother-in-law has dementia and her little dog Max (who is such a good boy) lived with her for years during the run-up to her being totally incapacitated. During that time she didn't let him out, but had pee pads all around her house were he learned to pee on the floor... sigh.

Fast forward to Max coming to live with us. He has "little man syndrome" and likes to boss around our beagle (who is also a good boy) and who is super passive. SO HE MARKS THE HOUSE A LOT... ack!
Little man runs around the house putting a little sprinkle of tinkle here, there and everywhere like a little pee gremlin.
You can see where this is headed... the beagle, whose bladder is MUCH bigger, follows after and pees on the tinkle sprinkles in a giant flood of piss.

How Doggie Diapers Have Saved My Sanity
We tried EVERYTHING... a going outside schedule, cleaning up the pee spots immediately with a enzymatic cleaner so there wasn't a smell, pulling our hair and screaming into the void. Nothing worked.
So I decided to try belly bands from Etsy... wah wah wah. First off, the lady that sold them was lovely, but they just got soaked with urine and didn't work very well.
Washable Doggie Diapers
So I turned to Amazon and found THE BEST washable doggie diapers ever...
We actually bought a second set for Wally Beagle (that is his full governement name) because you do have to wash them after each wearing.
💡 Tip: Splash a little bit of white vinegar into the diaper before putting them into the wash. The white vinegar neutralizes some of the odor.
For the beagle we went with XXL (he thick) and for the tiny dog we got L. Make sure to measure their waist and if they are a little chunky size up. The velcro works great and you can overlap it to make the diapers a little bit smaller.
I am not sure what is inside the diapers that keeps the urine from coming out, but we have never had a breakthrough pee.
10 out of 10 would buy again!
Disposable Doggie Diapers
We also have backup disposable diapers for the boys... I HATE that they go into the landfill, but don't want a mess if all their washable diapers are in the wash.
AND there are cute disposable doggie diapers you can buy that are patterned and don't look like your doggle has a sanitary napkin stuck around their waist!
Tips and Ideas For Doggie Diapers
Buy yourself some cute ones, whether disposible or washable. Seeing cute little dinosaur astronauts on your dogs ass will make you more likely to keep the practice up.
Yes, it is a pain in the butt to grab them every time they come in from outside, but it is more of a pain to clean up pee all day long.
Praise them to high heaven... they HATE the diapers, but they love that I give them lovens when they walk in the door. Don't skimp on this one... it makes a huge difference!
Do NOT waste your money on liners. They are tiny little pads that don't even work for Max and they move around in the belly bands.
They will take them off... little Max uses the bed wiggle method and Wally uses the coffee table scrape method. Just put those suckers right back on!
Doggie Diapers Wrapup
I am SOOO glad that I decided to get the diapers and make it a regular practice in our house.
We have had two "accidents" in the last month and that is a record that was not possible before our doggie diapers!
