This year, I’m doing something RADICAL. I’m setting a $25 limit for all my grown-up family and friends! WHY? Because we’ve got two little granddaughters in the mix and let’s be honest, I want to absolutely SHOWER them in toys, books, tutus, and enough sparkly hair bows to outfit a small army!

But here’s the thing: I still want my three kids, three parents, friends, and other loved ones to feel like they’ve been spoiled. I want them to open their gift, squeal, and think, “Dang, I am loved!”
So… the $25 Christmas Challenge was born. And spoiler alert: it’s not just doable, it’s FUN!
1. The Mindset Shift That Makes $25 Feel Luxe
This is NOT about being cheap - this is about being intentional!
- It’s about thoughtfulness, not the price tag. A $20 item that perfectly matches someone’s personality will beat a $60 “meh” gift every time.
- Bundle + presentation. A single $15 item can become a wow gift with a $5 add-on and creative wrapping.
- One “big” gift, not a pile of clearance. Quality over quantity, always!
2. How to Set the Limit Without Killing the Fun
When you say “We’re doing $25 gifts this year,” it can sound like a sad budget memo. But here’s how to make it festive:
- Make it a game. I literally announced to my crew, “Welcome to The $25 Christmas Challenge!” and now everyone’s comparing ideas like it’s a sport.
- Agree on rules. Can you do handmade? Thrifted treasures? Experiences? Decide together.
- Start early. The magic is in the hunt - December 23rd panic shopping = bad choices!
3. Real-Life $25 Gift Wins
These are gifts I’ve either done in the past or am eyeing for this year - all under $25 and all WAY more fabulous than their price tag suggests.
🎁 For the Cozy Homebody
- Plush Throw Blanket + Gourmet Cocoa Mix – Add a candy cane for instant holiday vibes. (most years I can get a FREE throw buying on Black Friday at Ulta!)
- $20 Luxe Candle + $5 Wick Trimmer – Looks high-end and feels indulgent. (if you are in the US, for sure check out Ross or Tjmaxx for cheap, fancy candles!)
🎁 For the Creative Spirit
- Handmade junk journal + Printable Inspiration Sheet – I love adding one of my free printables from Artsy Fartsy Life to make it feel special!
- Sketchbook + Washi Tape Bundle – Extra points if you pick washi tape in their favorite colors or patterns!
🎁 For the Foodie
- Gourmet Olive Oil + Small Spice Blend – Wrap it in a tea towel for bonus presentation points.
- Chocolate Sampler + Vintage Mug – Fill the mug with mini marshmallows or peppermint sticks.
🎁 For the Entrepreneur Friend
- Pretty Desktop Notepad + Fancy Pens – Bonus: motivational quote on the cover!
- “Boss Babe” Mug + $5 Coffee Gift Card – Perfect for Etsy sellers, bloggers, or side-hustle queens.
4. Wrapping Magic (a.k.a. How to Fake Fancy on a Budget)
- Brown Kraft Paper + Ribbon = rustic chic for pennies. (add stamps from your craft room if you have them!)
- Printable Tags from my blog = instant personalization.
- Add a sprig of greenery or a candy cane to make it look boutique-y!
5. The Secret Sauce: Experience > Price
Even if the gift is $18.97, you can make it feel priceless:
- Write a heartfelt note
- Make the gift reveal part of a silly game
- Add an inside joke to the wrapping or tag
Bottom line: The $25 Christmas isn’t about spending less - it’s about giving better!
It’s about the joy of the hunt, the creativity of presentation, and the warm fuzzies of seeing someone’s face light up because you nailed it...:)
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have two tiny granddaughters who need another set of matching Christmas jammies…
