Halloween is my absolute favorite time of year, and I love coming up with spooky-cute DIY projects to decorate the house and share as gifts! This year, I decided to try my hand at making some adorable Jack O' Lantern soap bars that smell like the perfect fall day – a mix of sweet vanilla and crisp apple.
And let me tell you, this homemade soap recipe turned out even better than I expected!
These little guys are super easy to make, even if you've never tried soapmaking before. Plus, they're a fun activity to do with kids (with adult supervision, of course!). So gather your supplies and let's get started!
Supplies To Make The DIY Soap
I found these cute little molds and KNEW I just had to make some spooky Halloween soap!
Years ago I gave this kind of soap as a “popby” for my real estate business and I have been hooked ever since!
- Jack o' lantern soap mold: I found this one on Amazon, and it's perfect for the occasion.
- Microwave-safe measuring cup (4 cups): You'll want a spout for easy pouring.
- Craft stick: For stirring your soap mixture.
- Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol: This helps to reduce air bubbles in the soap.
Easy Halloween Soap Ingredients
- ½ pound melt and pour soap base: I like this one because it's easy to work with and produces nice, smooth soap.
- 9 drops vanilla fragrance oil: Choose a high-quality oil for the best scent.
- 9 drops apple fragrance oil: Again, go for a good quality oil that complements the vanilla.
- ¼ tsp orange and purple mica: This gives your pumpkins that vibrant orange and purple colors.
Simple Halloween Soaps Instructions
This DIY Halloween hand soap is super cute AND easy to make… functionally you are going to microwave the melt and pour soap base at 20-30 second increments, add the scents and coloring and leave to cool!
Cut the soap base: Chop it up into 8 small cubes (about 1 inch each).
Melt the first batch: Place 5 of the cubes in the measuring cup and microwave on high in 30-second bursts, stirring well after each interval, until the soap is completely melted.
Add fragrance and color: Stir in 6 drops each of vanilla and apple fragrance oils, then add the orange mica. Keep stirring until the color is evenly distributed.
Pour and spray: Carefully pour the orange soap mixture into two of the jack o' lantern mold cavities. If you see any bubbles in the bottom of the soap, give them a quick spritz with the alcohol spray.
Repeat for the purple batch: Melt the remaining 3 soap cubes, following the same process as before. This time, add the remaining fragrance oils and the purple mica.
Pour the purple soaps: Fill the last mold cavity with the purple mixture and give it a spray if needed.
Let it set: Now comes the hard part – waiting! Allow the soap to harden in the mold for about 2 hours.
Unmold and enjoy: Gently pop the soap bars out of the mold. Now you have three adorable Jack O' Lantern soap bars to display at your Halloween party or give away as gifts!
OF COURSE you could use the skull mold to make skull soap or make spooky ghost soaps that will be a huge hit with the whole family!
Tips:
- If you want to give these as home decor gifts or halloween classroom gifts for your favorite teachers, wrap them in cellophane bags and tie them with a festive ribbon.
- Experiment with different colors and fragrance combinations for a unique twist. Punmkin spice is always a fall favorite, you could even do a darker smell for your grown up Halloween parties!
- For a sparkly effect, add a pinch of glitter to your soap mixture.
